The Festival Internacional de Cine de Mar del Plata is an international film festival in Mar del Plata , Argentina .

The festival was founded in 1954 and is accredited by the FIAPF film producers' association as one of fifteen competitive film festivals in the world. Between 1971 and 1995 the Festival Internacional de Cine de Mar del Plata did not take place for political and economic reasons after the establishment of a military government in Argentina.

The president of the festival is Miguel Pereira .

Astor de Oro

The Astor de Oro is the main prize of the festival and has been awarded for the best film since 1959. In total, the jury awards over fifteen film prizes in various categories each year .
