history

A document from 1184 mentions a small hospice run by the hospitallers who helped travelers to cross the Gampenpass in adverse conditions. In 1224 an Augustinian monastery was built , which in 1321 was subordinated to the Augustinian canon monastery on the Au in Bozen . With the dissolution of this monastery and the later takeover by the Benedictines from the Swiss monastery of Muri , responsibility for the pilgrimage site in the upper Non Valley came to this order.

Since the tower dates back to Romanesque times, the nave was rebuilt in the Gothic style at the beginning of the 15th century. This building, which has been preserved to this day, was consecrated on June 10, 1432 by Bernhard von Cles , Bishop of Trento . In the 17th and 18th centuries the baroque interior was completed.

The parish church, together with the cemetery chapel and the cemetery, has been a listed building since 1981.
