Mark Richardson (born October 3, 1986 in Swindon , England ) is a British ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Cardiff Devils in the Elite Ice Hockey League since November 2012 .

Career

Mark Richardson began his career as a hockey player with the Swindon Leopards, a youth team from his hometown. Later he also played for the Cougars there. At the age of 15 he was already a member of the Swindon Lynx in the English Premier Ice Hockey League and also played a game for Basingstoke Bison in the then British National League in the 2002/03 season . From 2003 to 2005 he played for the Bracknell Bees in the British National League, which he won with the team in 2005. In the same year he was voted Young British Player of the Year . He then moved to the Cardiff Devils in the Elite Ice Hockey League for two years , with whom he won the Challenge Cup in 2006 . After one and a half years with the Nottingham Panthers , with whom he again won the Challenge Cup in 2008, and six months with the Basingstoke Bison, he returned to Cardiff in 2009, where, apart from a few months in autumn 2012, he played with the Kazakh HK Arlan Kökschetau spent playing. In 2012 he was voted the best defender of the Elite Ice Hockey League. In 2015 and 2017 he won the Challenge Cup again with the Devils and in 2017 also the main round of the Elite Ice Hockey League and, associated with it, the British championship . In 2018 he was able to win the British championship again with Cardiff and this time also the playoffs of the Elite Ice Hockey League. So far he has completed a total of over 600 games in the EIHL for Cardiff, Nottingham and Basingstoke.

International

For Great Britain, Richardson took part in the junior division of the U18 World Championships in Division I of 2003 and Division II in 2004 as well as in the U20 World Championships of Division II in 2003 , 2004 and 2006 and Division I in 2005 .

In the senior division, he was in the British squad at the World Championships in Division I in 2005 , 2006 , 2007 , 2009 , 2010 , 2011 , 2012 , 2013 , 2014 , 2015 , 2016 , 2017 and 2018 , when the British made the jump for the first time since relegation in 1994 the highest level of the world championships succeeded. He was also on the ice for his colors at the qualifying tournaments for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver , 2014 in Sochi and 2018 in Pyeongchang . In qualifying for the games in Sochi, the first qualifying round in November 2012 in Nikkō, Japan, was won by a 2-1 win against the Japanese team . In the second round, which was held in Riga, Latvia, in February 2013 , the British to Richardson had to pay hardship and lost all three games.
