Markus Welz (born July 22, 1976 in Ingolstadt ) is a former German ice hockey player who was mainly under contract with EV Landshut in the 2nd national ice hockey league during his career . He played in the position of the right winger .

Career

Markus Welz began his ice hockey training in the junior department of EV Landshut and at the age of 17 was already part of the Landshut junior team, which competed in the junior Bundesliga. In the following season 1994/1995 he was again in the squad of the junior team, but this season also ran for the first time for TSV Erding in the 1st League South . The following year he was active in Erding for the entire season, scoring 49 points.

For the 1996/97 season Welz moved to the Nuremberg Ice Tigers in the German Ice Hockey League . In his second season in the highest German league, however, he only made eleven missions before moving back to Erding. Here he also spent the 1999/2000 season before signing a contract with the second division club ERC Ingolstadt . There he celebrated winning the second division championship in 2001 the following year . For the 2001/02 season he moved to league rivals Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg .

After just one year in Wolfsburg, he was signed by the Landshut Cannibals for the 2002/03 season . In his first season on the Isar, Welz scored 33 points and recommended himself for a contract extension. In the following seasons he was able to convince with his performances and gradually became a regular player for the Cannibals. If there were personal problems on the defensive - such as in the 2008/09 season - Welz was also used as a defender.
