Martin Candinas
Martin Candinas (born August 20, 1980 in Ilanz ; resident in Sumvitg ) is a Swiss politician ( CVP ) and former councilor in the canton of Graubünden . He has been a member of the National Council since the elections on October 23, 2011 .

After the Matura Type E at the district school Chur Candinas started as a customer service representative at the insurance company Helsana . Candinas attended the IbW Höhere Fachschule Südostschweiz in Chur while working and graduated in 2005 with a diploma as a social security specialist with a federal certificate. In 2006 he was promoted to branch manager . In 2011 he became Head of Sales Coordination at the General Agency Chur and in this role managed three sales outlets in the cantons of Graubünden and Glarus . Since the beginning of 2017 he has been working for Helsana as a specialist partner & key account management.
Martin Candinas has been President of Litra (information service for public transport) and the Swiss Helicopter Association since 2016 . He has also been Vice President of the Swiss Working Group for Mountain Regions since 2016.

His political career began in 1999 as a board member of the Junge CVP Graubünden. From 2006 to 2008 he was also active on the board of the Junge CVP Switzerland . From 2006 to December 2011 he represented the Surselva in the Grand Council of the Canton of Graubünden. Until 2010 he was its youngest member. From 2010 to the end of 2011 he chaired the Health and Social Affairs Commission of the Grand Council. From 2008 to 2015 he was also a board member of the Surselva region. For the 2011 National Council elections , he was elected to the first place on the list at the nomination meeting of the CVP Graubünden and made it into the National Council in the elections. In the 2015 National Council elections , he was re-elected with the second best result in the canton. He was able to repeat this success in the 2019 National Council elections .
His political focus is on regional as well as social, transport and family policy. Martin Candinas is a member of the Commission for Transport and Telecommunications and the Security Policy Commission of the National Council . Since 2012 he has also been a member of the party presidency of CVP Switzerland . After his election to the National Council, Candinas fought on the front line against the second home initiative. Since its acceptance, he has been campaigning for the most subsidiary possible implementation of the initiative. The most important concern of Martin Candinas in terms of infrastructure policy is to ensure the development of the peripheral regions, especially the mountain area, by road, rail and high-speed internet. The federal government's requirement for a minimum internet speed of 10 Mbit / second goes back to a successful initiative by Martin Candinas. Martin Candinas gained nationwide fame by launching a parliamentary initiative to introduce two-week paternity leave . The two-week paternity leave passed by Parliament in 2019 was essentially based on this initiative.
Another focus of Martin Candinas is maintaining a strong public service in the radio and television sector. Maintaining high quality radio and television services for the Romansh minority, to which he himself belongs, is particularly important to him. He was the leading representative of the supporters in the run-up to the referendum on the revision of the Radio and Television Act (RTVG) in June 2015 and the leading opponent of the No Billag initiative in March 2018. During the Corona crisis 2020, Martin Candinas advocated the establishment of one sovereign Swiss sovereign wealth fund, in particular to preserve systemically important economic sectors in the peripheral regions in the long term.
Within his party, he speaks out against the opening of marriage to homosexual couples in Switzerland.

Martin Candinas is married, has two sons and a daughter and lives in Rabius and Chur .
