Matt Murley (born December 17, 1979 in Troy , New York ) is an American ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Japanese club Oji Eagles since July 2016 .

Career

At the beginning of his career Murley was first between 1998 and 2002 for the university team of the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in the ECAC Hockey , which is integrated into the game operations of the NCAA on the ice. In the summer of 2002 he was obliged by the Pittsburgh Penguins from the National Hockey League (NHL), who had previously secured the transfer rights to the American as part of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft . There he first completed a full season with the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins , the farm team of the penguins in the American Hockey League (AHL). In the 2003/04 season, Murley made his debut in the NHL and initially made 18 games for Pittsburgh before being returned to the farm team. In the 2005/06 season , the attacker was ultimately able to establish himself in the Penguins' squad and had a total of 41 NHL missions.

In the summer of 2007 he signed a one-year contract with league rivals Colorado Avalanche , but was only used there with the farm team Albany River Rats in the AHL. Then Murley moved within the league to the Phoenix Coyotes , but where he came in the 2007/08 season only on three missions with the Coyotes and spent the rest of the season with the AHL farm team San Antonio Rampage . In the run-up to the 2008/09 season, the left-handed shooter initially agreed on a contract with the Carolina Hurricanes , but decided before the start of the season to move to Europe to the Russian club Amur Khabarovsk from the Continental Hockey League (KHL).

In the summer of 2009 Murley joined the Swiss second division club SC Langenthal , but switched to the National League A during the current season and played first for HC Lugano and later for the Rapperswil-Jona Lakers . For the 2010/11 season the striker went to Sweden in the Elitserien and initially played a few games for Linköpings HC before he was signed by Timrå IK . After two more seasons there, Murley signed a contract with KHL Medveščak Zagreb in July 2013 and thus returned to the KHL. In the 2014/15 season , the variable offensive player played for the league competitor HC Slovan Bratislava , before the left-handed player was signed by the Nürnberg Ice Tigers from the German Ice Hockey League in August 2015 .

After a year in Franconia, Murley moved to Japan and signed a contract with the Oji Eagles .
