The mBank SA (until November 2013 BRE Bank ) is the fourth largest Polish universal bank . The company's headquarters are in Warsaw . It was founded in 1986 as the state bank Rozwoju Eksportu to finance the Polish export economy and was the first privatized Polish bank ( IPO in 1992).

The bank reaches around 5.6 million private and 26,500 business customers in Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia .

The company's share is traded on the Warsaw Stock Exchange and is included in its leading indices WIG 20 and WIG30 .

Until the company's name change in November 2013, mBank had been a brand for an online bank of BRE Bank since 2000. It had no branches, only financial centers and mKIOSKe , where all banking business could be done. You could deposit and withdraw cash at ATMs, and you could also deposit in some shops. The bank customers managed their accounts through internet service, telephone and SMS.

Shareholder structure

The share capital of the company amounts to 169,401,468 zloty and is divided into 42,338,367 bearer shares and 12,000 registered shares of nominal value of 4.00 zloty.

Commerzbank announced in September 2019 that it wanted to part with its stake in mBank. The sale of the participation did not take place, however, and the bank finally withdrew from its sales plans on the grounds that "in the current environment characterized by the corona crisis, a transaction on attractive terms would not [appear]".
