McKinney is a city in Collin County in the US state of Texas and the seat of the county seat of Collin County.

According to the United States Census Bureau , McKinney was the fastest growing city in the United States from 2000 to 2003 and again in 2006 among cities with a population greater than 50,000. This increase is due to McKinney being on the northeastern edge of the rapidly developing suburbs north of Dallas . Both the city and the county are named after Collin McKinney , signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence and a member of the Red River District Congress of the Republic of Texas .
