Meimerhausen is a district of the municipality of Freden (Leine) in the Lower Saxony district of Hildesheim .

geography

The state road L 486 runs through the village . The Leine flows on the southern outskirts .

history

In 1321 the Hildesheim monastery of St. Michael owned a mountain near "Meymerhusen". Further ownership of the village is documented in 1578 in an inheritance register of Winzenburg Castle , which shows that the "Ruscheplaten" (von Rauschenplatt) family had a seat here until 1609 and also owned land in the nearby village of Everode . The property then changed hands. Around 1855 the farmers were freed from their burdens in accordance with the redemption law. Baron von Steinberg bought it in 1861 . When this family died out in the male line in 1911, the daughter of Steinberg, who later married into the Hardenberg family , sold it , and the lands were divided into smaller plots. 1925 the population was 188. In 1961 the place had 272, in 1970, shortly before the incorporation, 190 inhabitants. On March 1, 1974 Meimerhausen was incorporated into the municipality of Freden (Leine).

Meimerhausen coat of arms
Blazon : "In a blue shield on a green hill coveredwith a lying silver stag antler , a magpie in natural colors with an upwardly sloping tail and a raised right leg."
Foundation of the coat of arms: According to the memory of the ancients of the village of Meimerhausen, before the linking of the district, when there was still a place everywhere along the ways and Rainen Baum and Hagen, the Elster was the character bird of the place and its surroundings, which played an important role in legend and tradition . The community rightly chose the beautiful bird, which has become a rarity in its field today, as a landmark.
