The Meiningen City Run is a traditional city ​​run that is held every year in Meiningen on October 3rd on the Day of German Unity as a street run and a fun run. The second oldest city run in Thuringia took place for the first time on October 3, 1991. The Meininger City Run is considered to be the fastest city run in Thuringia. The organizer is the police sports club PSV Meiningen 90 e. V.

history

On the occasion of the first anniversary of German unity , PSV Meiningen launched an international running event as a city run. From the beginning, the distances were half marathon , ten kilometers for adults and three and five kilometers for young people. There is also a fun run for everyone. One hour before the start of the main run, a children's run is organized by the Meiningen primary schools. The half marathon has not been held since 2012. From 2013 to 2015, the Meininger company run over 5 km was part of the City Run. In 2014 and 2015, the Thuringian Road Run Championship took place as part of the City Run. On this occasion, the running route was re-measured. In 2015 the city run was integrated into the world culture week "Refugees welcome".

Known starters

Since 1991 numerous well-known athletes from Germany and abroad have taken part in the Meininger City Run. They included the GDR marathon and German 5000 m and cross-country champions Rainer Wachenbrunner , the German cross-country and half-marathon champions Manuel Stöckert , the summer biathlete and long-distance runner Marcel Bräutigam , the long-distance runner Nicholas Kipruto Koech from Kenya and the Ukrainian Champion in 10,000 m Oksana Skljarenko .

Running track

The Meiningen City Run is carried out on a 2.5 km long DLV -measured circuit through the city center of Meiningen. Evaluations and award ceremonies take place in 29 age groups. The age groups of the 10 km main run are divided according to the athletics regulations of the German Athletics Association (DLV) "LAO §3" and "VAO §3". The first to third place winners are awarded in all age groups.

Route

The start and finish of the Meininger Citylauf is the market square . The running route leads from Markt south through Anton-Ulrich-Straße, then changes west to Alte Henneberger Straße and continues on this over the Mühlgrabenbrücke and Werra Bridge to Schillerstraße. The route then runs through Schillerstrasse along the Werra to the Georgsbrücke , on which the Werra is crossed for the second time. The running route then leads through the palace gardens, past Elisabethenburg Palace, over the Green Bridge to Karlsallee, and on through this to Georgstrasse by the Henneberger Haus . The pedestrian zone leads to the destination via Georgstrasse. The starting point for the 3 km is in Karlsallee. The running track is level and has asphalt, paving and paved park paths as the track surface. The Meininger City Run takes place in all weathers.
