Melchior Westhues

Melchior Westhues (born March 6, 1896 in Herbern , Westphalia , † November 10, 1971 in Munich ) was a German veterinarian and university professor.

After his habilitation in 1925 at the University of Giessen , Westhues received an extraordinary professorship as a veterinarian. The following year he was appointed to the University of Munich (LMU). There he took over the chair for general and special surgery including eye diseases at the surgical veterinary clinic in 1931, which he held until his retirement in 1965. From 1955 to 1956 Westhues was rector of the LMU. In 1951 he was one of the founding members of the German Veterinary Society .

As a university representative, Westhues was a member of the Bavarian Senate .

Westhues was awarded the Bavarian Order of Merit on December 15, 1959 .
