Micaela Di Catalano
Micaela Di Catalano (* in Münchberg bei Hof ) is a German opera singer ( soprano ).
Career
Micaela Di Catalano grew up in Upper Franconia and began her musical training with violin lessons at the age of five . She began her professional life as a radio editor before she turned to classical music.
In Vienna she received her vocal training from Walter Zeh and Toma Popescu and in Munich from Mario Gallo . Di Catalano perfected her training by attending several master classes such as those of Eva Randová and Montserrat Caballé and consultations with Plácido Domingo . From him and from Montserrat Caballé she received the recommendation to establish herself in the Wagner repertoire.
In 2008 she was a scholarship holder of the Silver Bay International Music Festival NY Opera & Voice and in 2009 she was invited by the Maria Callas Foundation (master class singing), where she received intensive vocal coaching for six months. Another scholarship from the Academia Vocalis to attend a master class by Jaume Aragall followed in 2011 and she also received a scholarship from the Richard Wagner Association in the same year. In 2012 she was invited by the European Youth Music Festival Young Classic Europe Passau to take part in a master class by Cheryl Studer and Roland Baumgartner selected her for the title role of his opera “ Maria Theresia ”. In the same year she sang a part in Baumgartner's work about the Austrian painter Friedensreich Hundertwasser , “The House of Dreams”, which premiered in December 2012 in Vienna.
In 2013 Di Catalano was admitted to the Academy for Young Singers of the Mariinsky Theater in Saint Petersburg and after four months she auditioned with Valery Gergiev , who then brought her from the Academy to the theater and trained her there.
During her stays in Germany she received regular coaching for her repertoire from the Wagner and Strauss specialist Richard Trimborn .
In 2017 the soprano made her operatic debut in Saint Petersburg during the festival “All Together Opera” with the role of Agathe in “ Der Freischütz ” by Carl Maria von Weber .
Micaela Di Catalano has appeared on the stage at numerous opera and operetta concerts at home and abroad. Concert tours have taken her to the Cairo Opera House , France , Italy , Japan , Austria , Switzerland , the Czech Republic , the United Arab Emirates and the United States of America .
At the Mariinsky Theater in Saint Petersburg she played the roles of 3 Brünnhilden in " The Ring of the Nibelung " and Sieglinde in " Die Walküre " by Richard Wagner .
Micaela Di Catalano was a juror at the IV International Vocalist Competition "STAR RHAPSODY" in Saint Petersburg from February 22nd to 27th, 2018 .
On September 22nd, 2018, Di Catalano organized a concert in the Margravial Opera House Bayreuth on the occasion of the 100th birthday of Birgit Nilsson and Astrid Varnay , for which Valery Gergiev had taken over the patronage, with the support of the cultural office of the city of Bayreuth and sponsors .
