Michel Dalberto (born June 2, 1955 in Paris ) is a French pianist.

Life

At the age of 13, Dalberto became a student of Vlado Perlemuter , Jean Hubeau and Raymond Trouard in Paris . With the 25th Piano Concerto (Mozart) he won the legendary competition in Leeds in 1978 . As the winner of two major music competitions , he began an international career in the late 1970s. He gave early concerts with Erich Leinsdorf (1980), Wolfgang Sawallisch , Colin Davis , Frans Brüggen and Charles Dutoit , and later with Juri Chatujewitsch Temirkanow , Kurt Masur and Daniele Gatti . With Henryk Szeryng he played Beethoven's 10 violin sonatas. He played four hands and two pianos with Nikita Magaloff . He performed trio concerts with Dmitri Sitkowetski and Lynn Harrell or Renaud Capuçon and Gautier Capuçon , duo concerts with Boris Dawidowitsch Belkin , Vadim Repin , Nikolaj Znaider , Juri Abramowitsch Baschmet , Gérard Caussé , Truls Mørk and Emmanuel Pørk , Henri Demarquette . In the quintet he played with the Quatuor Ébène and the Modigliani Quartet . He has made guest appearances at the Lucerne Festival , the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence , the Wiener Festwochen , the Edinburgh Festival and the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival . After numerous recordings for Denon , the EMI Group and Erato ( Warner Music Group ), he played a recital with works by Claude Debussy for Sony BMG from 1997 onwards . This was followed by the 20th piano concerto (Mozart) and the 22nd piano concerto (Mozart) with the Ensemble Orchestral de Paris under John Nelson and Franz Liszt's paraphrases on operas by Verdi and Wagner (2004). His complete recording of Franz Schubert's piano works (Denon, 1988–1995) has remained the only one to this day. From 1987 to 2009 he was on the jury of the Clara Haskil piano competition in Vevey ; as chairman he succeeded his friend Magaloff in 1991. He was the accompanist for Jessye Norman , Barbara Hendricks , Ildikó Raimondi , Nathalie Stutzmann , Stephan Genz ( Die Winterreise ) and Edwin Crossley-Mercer . At the Aparté label, he began recording a four-part CD series with works by Claude Debussy, César Franck , Gabriel Fauré and Maurice Ravel in 2015 ; for each composer he uses the grand piano that is best suited to the sound . He avoids virtuosity .

Dalberto is professor at the Pianist Academy in Imola and has been teaching at the Paris Conservatory since 2011 . He lives in Switzerland, is a passionate gourmet and loves skiing , Formula 1 and diving .
