The Michelbach is an 8¼ km long stream in northern Baden-Württemberg , which flows into the Ohrn from the right and east near Oberohrn in the municipality of Pfedelbach in the Hohenlohe district .

geography

Source and history

The Michelbach arises on the northern Waldenburg mountains near the edge of the step to the north down to the Hohenloher level at about 494  m above sea level. NN . The first run is about 1.1 km southwest of the Streithof residential area in Waldenburg in the beginning of the Weidsee forest . Here, where the western foothills of the plateau between Ohrn in the west and Bibers in the west, known as the Karlsfurter Plain , begin, there are, as in several other places on it, some earth dams, only some of which dammed ponds. The brook arises at such a functionless one. A good fifty meters further east is a 0.4 hectare forest pond behind the next dam.

From here on, the brook runs for about a kilometer with only moderate hollow formation to the southwest through the Brämich to the Karlsfurter Weg on the upper edge of the slope at about 470  m above sea level. NN , where it crosses into the district of Michelbach am Wald , is the district of Öhringen . For the next three quarters of a kilometer, it then flows through a steep forest edge up to around 335  m above sea level. NN down, taking a more than one kilometer long blade inlet from the Gorrensee from the left, which, together with its inconsistent water-bearing upper course, which begins in the Strüt , even extends close to the length of the Michelbach up to this point. On the valley floor below, there is another one-kilometer inflow from the left from the 0.4-hectare Jagdhaussee , which lies immediately east of the road from Waldenburg to Obersteinbach (L 1046) behind a thin row of trees.

After that, the brook, having arrived in the Kerbsohlental of its middle course, turns west and soon passes the Burgstall Altgabelstein in the Alten Bürg , which lies in the lower triangle of the mouth of a little notched forest brook from the right slope edge. After a few other smaller tributaries, the Michelbach leaves after half of its course at the forester's house Rohrklinge at about 280  m above sea level. NN the forest and immediately takes on a slope inflow from the left, which arises on the slope edge below the nature reserve Viehweide . On the right southern slope vineyards that have already been cleared of vineyards cover the low Hubberg , it itself moves in a gently meandering, wood-accompanied course past Margaretenhof through the Bodenwiesen to the road from Obersteinbach to Michelbach (K 2387). Here the open Hohenlohe plain extends to the west and north , in which it gradually creates a small valley basin.

He then follows the road to the right to the northwest to the outskirts of Michelbach, where it feeds a small pond on a sports field. Immediately after that, the 3.2 km long Rechtenbach flows from the left , its largest tributary, which contributes to the 3.0 km² catchment area and has been flowing almost parallel on the other side of the road since the Michelbach north-west bend.

From here it runs the remaining 2¼ km in a westerly direction. In the village, the older buildings mostly cling to the slopes and hills on both sides. In the area of the main road that crosses the pronounced small valley basin, the brook is partially lilted in the middle of new buildings. After leaving the village soft area, it soon flows into the Oberohrn district of the Pfedelbach community . Less than a kilometer later, a little south of Oberohrn, it flows into the Ohrnbrücke on the road from there to Michelbach at about 237  m above sea level. NN from the right and east after 8¼ km run in their flat floodplain into the Ohrn .

Catchment area

The Michelbach has a catchment area of 13½ km². From a natural point of view, the greater part and the upper reaches of the Waldenburg Mountains sub-area of the Swabian-Franconian Forest Mountains , and the somewhat smaller area of the Öhringer Plain of the Hohenloher and Haller Plains . The 500.4  m above sea level. NN highest point is on its northeastern edge at Waldenburg, the mouth at the western tip at about 237  m above sea level. NN .

From the confluence in the northwest, the initially little pronounced watershed passes close to the north of Michelbach to the east, then climbs over the ridge of Gügling , Pfaffenberg and Ahörnle to the western tip of the Karlsfurt plain . On this stretch the Ohrn tributary Söllbach competes in the north . Thereafter, in the further train to the east, there is a somewhat shorter catchment area of the Epbach in the north. The watershed turns south-west of Waldenburg-Streithof and then roughly follows the road Waldenburg- Michelfeld -Sailach (K 2362) almost to Waldenburg-Tommelhardt; here it runs close to the right slope of the Bibers valley. Near Tommelhardt, it bends west, cutting through the northernmost part of the Obersteinbacher clearing island, reaching the Viehweide nature reserve and then running on a narrow mountain ridge to Wilfersberg . On this section initially the upper course of the Lochbach and then the Steinbach , later the Ohrn itself, competes , whose own catchment area then also borders on the remainder to the northeast back to the mouth.

Over half of the catchment area is forested, in the east and south on the heights of the Waldenburg mountains and in the upper valley areas.

The majority of the catchment area belongs to the Michelbacher district of the city of Öhringen, less than a fifth in the far east to the district of Waldenburg, less than a fiftieth in the far west (mouth wedge) to the Oberohrner district of Öhringen. Tiny snippets on the northern edge are in Neustein (Obersöllbach district).

The settlement is limited to Michelbach and the two settlement areas Rohrklinge and Margaretenhof mentioned in the course.

geology

The Michelbach arises in the silica sandstone ( Hassberge Formation ) of the plateau around Waldenburg and runs in its blade quickly through the Lower Bunter Marl ( Steigerwald Formation ) and the reed sandstone ( Stuttgart Formation ), which is only tolerably wide in a few places in the catchment area crosses out. From the end of the trough it runs to the mouth in more or less wide valley fillings in the Gipskeuper ( Grabfeld formation ).

In addition to its blade incision, there is block debris on the slope, as elsewhere at a similar altitude on the slopes. At Burgstall Altgabelstein and afterwards slipped masses of floe cover a part of the right valley slope, smaller areas also occur elsewhere. Quaternary loess lies on the level to the left of the lower reaches from Michelbach .

A geological nature trail begins at the sports facilities in the valley on the eastern edge of Michelbach, which climbs up through the vine-covered slopes of Gügling to Pfaffenberg and explains the local Gipskeuper geology.

Protected areas

  • The Viehweide nature reserve at the upper end of the slope of the road to Obersteinach is a former hut forest with its peculiar animal and plant community, which is under nature protection.
  • On the southwestern edge of the catchment area, the ridge to the west to Wilfersberg is part of the Steinbacher Tal nature reserve with peripheral areas (Upper Ohrntal) .
  • A field oak grove along the way on the upper Rechtenbach is protected as a natural monument.

Most of the catchment area is part of the Swabian-Franconian Forest Nature Park , in particular almost all of the forest areas in it.
