Mickie Laree James (born August 31, 1979 in Montpelier , Virginia ) is an American wrestler , country singer and model . She held the highest women's title a total of nine times.
Private life
James grew up in Montpelier , Virginia and attended Patrick Henry High School .
In addition to wrestling, Mickie James has successfully completed an Associate of Arts (AA) degree.
On September 25, 2014, James gave birth to their first child, a son. The father is her partner, the British NWA wrestler Nick Aldis aka. Magnus.
Wrestling career
Beginnings
In 1999 James made her first appearance in the independent league KYDA Pro Wrestling under the pseudonym Alexis Laree . At first she only worked as a ring companion ( valet ), but was then also allowed to take part in wrestling matches. She also worked as a waitress in a restaurant, as wrestlers in the independent leagues do not have a fixed income, but rather a fee per performance.
Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (2002-2003)
After spending a year at Ring of Honor , she was then employed by Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA).
World Wrestling Entertainment (2003-2010)
In 2003 she left TNA and signed a development contract with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) in April of the same year . There she was first trained in the Ohio Valley Wrestling league . On October 10, she made her WWE debut on RAW under the ring name Mickie James . Initially, she had the gimmick of an over-the-top fan of wrestler Trish Stratus . This gimmick was later expanded into a feud program between the two, which she was allowed to victoriously conclude at Wrestlemania 22 with the receipt of the title of the WWE Women's Championship . Then James found himself in a brief feud program with Lita .
On February 19, 2007, she had to hand over the title to Melina . After James the title in a house show could win again, this title change was within the elaborate storyline by former RAW General Manager Jonathan Coachman canceled. There was another title match in which Melina Perez once again won the title according to action and made the reign of James the shortest of the WWE Women's Championship in its history.
On April 14, 2008 James was allowed to book their fourth title win against Beth Phoenix . At the PPV Summerslam event , James had to surrender the title back to Beth Phoenix.
At the WWE event Night of Champions , which took place on July 26, 2009, James was allowed to defeat her opponent Maryse and thus win the title of the WWE Divas Championship for the first time and hold it for three months. After James in a title match that title October 12, 2009 Jillian Hall accordance storyline had to lose, they moved to Smackdown -Roster . At the Royal Rumble 2010 Mickie James was allowed to defeat Michelle McCool , and thus to win the womens title for the fifth time , which she had to surrender again on the Friday after against McCool at SmackDown.
On April 22, 2010, her WWE contract was terminated. Then she tried herself as a country singer.
Return to TNA Wrestling (2010-2013, 2015)
After spending a year at Ring of Honor , she was then employed by Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA).
Mickie James returned to TNA on October 7, 2010 . She feuded with Madison Rayne , from whom she won the TNA Women's Knockout Championship in a cage match on April 17, 2011 at the PPV Lockdown 2011 . She lost the title on August 7, 2011 at Hardcore Justice to Winter . On August 25, 2011, she won the title for the second time. At No Surrender on September 11, 2011, she had to give up the title again to Winter.
On May 23, 2013 at Impact Wrestling , she won the TNA Women's Knockout Championship for the third time against Velvet Sky . At the end of September 2013, she left her doctorate.
On January 30, 2015, she celebrated her return to TNA to feud with her husband against Bram and later against The Revolution. When the two feuds were over, she left TNA on July 29, 2016. She played her last match at TNA on July 29, 2016, when she and her husband defeated Magnus, Serena Deeb and James Storm . After leaving TNA, she took on various independent doctorates.
Return to WWE (since 2016)
On October 26, 2016, NXT General Manager William Regal announced that she would have a chance to win the NXT Women's Championship at NXT TakeOver: Toronto . On November 19, 2016, she made her return to WWE on NXT TakeOver: Toronto . She lost to Asuka in that match. On December 8, 2016, Mickie James signed a multi-year contract. She made her public debut in the January 17, 2017 issue of Smackdown for the first time when she intervened on behalf of Alexa Bliss in her steel cage match against Becky Lynch . She had already intervened masked for Bliss on December 27, but Lynch was able to pull the mask off her head at the steel cage match.
Since then, she has only played singles matches and was briefly involved in the title affairs for the Raw Women's Championship , but she was unable to secure the title.
As part of the 2019 Superstar Shake-up, James switched from Raw to SmackDown on April 16, 2019 .
