The Mierbach is an approximately 13 km long river in the Upper Palatinate Forest and Bohemian Forest . Its extensive headwaters are located on the southeast flank of the Stückberg and in the wet meadows north of Schönsee . It flows from south to north. It crosses the German-Czech border east of Eslarn and flows into the Nivní potok (German: Natschbach) in the Czech Republic north of Železná .

Surname

From the sources to Lindau the brook is called Mierbach . From Lindau onwards it is referred to as both Mierbac h and Fahrbach . The further north it flows, the more the name Fahrbach prevails. After crossing the border, it bears the Czech name Farský potok in the Czech Republic . The German population, who lived in this area until 1946, called the body of water Ketschbach .

geography

course

The longest source brook of the Mierbach rises at about 750  m above sea level. NHN in the Hahnenhangs on the southeast slope of the Stückberg . This flows southeast down the mountain through the wood meadow south past the Gruberberg and under the state road St 2154 through to the valley hollow Lange Wiese north of Schönsee . The second longest rises in Vogelherd at about 716  m above sea level. NHN and also flows to the south-east through the Troidlwiese, where it absorbs further source runoff, then on the east run the junction with the aforementioned at about 629  m above sea level. To reach NHN . Several sources also pour on the edge of the valley floor of the Long Meadow at 650- 640  m above sea level. NHN and also feed the Mierbach.

The unified Mierbach flows approximately northwards from the Lange Wiese. Soon after it, the previous trough narrows to a notch valley and the forest approaches the stream from both sides. Then it flows through the Schönsee scattered settlement village Lindau , whose settlement groups are predominantly on the left lower slope.

The stream, now also known as Fahrbach, reaches the forest again and is now over a kilometer long border between the town of Schönsee in the Schwandorf district on the right bank and the Eslarn market in the Neustadt an der Waldnaab district . The Polsterbach joins the Polsterbach from the right at the Polstermühle in the Schönsee hamlet of Polster , coming from the northwest slope of Gradlhöhe. After changing to the Eslarn area, the second large tributary Schwarzabach flows about 6.5 km downstream from the highest spring east of the scattered settlement village of Kreuth von Eslarn, which lies on the height above the wooded valley slope, from the southwest.

The valley floor is now a little further and alternately open and wooded, all the way down to the Czech border, which the stream is a little below 512  m above sea level. NHN east of Eslarn itself at a smaller left tributary, after which it begins a short swerve to the east

After crossing to the Czech Republic about 0.7 km south of the Tillyschanz border crossing , the creek is now called Farský potok in Czech, the former German population here called it Ketschbach. At Železná, 0.5 km after the border, this is dammed up to form the 8-hectare Železný rybnik. After leaving it to the north, in Železná he crosses the second class road No. 197 from the Tillyschanz and for the last three kilometers or so slowly turns to the north-northwest in a completely unsettled landscape

2.5 km north-west of the main settlement part of Železná it then flows at about 495  m nm into the Nivní potok , which flows westwards here and which, after soon crossing to Bavaria under the German name Natschbach, is a high tributary of the main stream of the Pfreimd .

Catchment area

The catchment area of the Mierbach is around 13 km² in size, 9 km² of which are in Bavaria and the rest of the east and northeast in the Czech Republic. Its contour is that of a tube of not very strong fluctuations in width, which extends a little over 10 km from the northern edge of Schönsee to the mouth. The two with each at 810  m above sea level. NHN highest points are left and right of the upper course on the summit of the Stückberg and on the saddle between the two peaks of the Eulenberg

The following catchment areas are adjacent in turn:

  • in the northeast and east from near the mouth to the Eulenberg that of the Železný potok , the next upper right tributary to the Nivní potok
  • in the southeast and south that of the Ascha flowing through the town of Schönsee , which drains to the Schwarzach .
  • in the southwest on a short stretch to the Stückberg that of the Murach , which also feeds the Schwarzach.
  • in the west and west-northwest that of the Loisbach , a Pfreimd tributary and
  • in the northwest, a boggy neighboring area is also drained via drainage ditches in the direction of Pfreimd.

All of the mentioned streams and rivers ultimately lead their water to the Naab .

Tributaries

From the source to the mouth. During its entire course, the Mierbach takes in numerous unnamed streams, especially from the left and east, so only two tributaries with established names are listed here.

  • Polsterbach , from the right and southeast to about 542  m above sea level. NHN at the upholstery mill of Schönsee- Polster , approx. 1.3 km and approx. 1.9 km². Arises on the northwest slope of Gradlhöhe at about 633  m above sea level. NHN .
  • Schwarzabach , from the left and southwest to about 523  m above sea level. NHN east of Eslarn - Kreuth , 2.1 km and 1.4 km² (catchment area from the branch). Arises at about 564  m above sea level. NHN at the northeast foot of the Stückberg as the right branch of the Lindauer Bach , which itself also drains indirectly (via the Loisbach ), but much further downwards than the Mierbach into the Pfreimd.
