Michael George "Mike" Vrabel (* 14. August 1975 in Akron , Ohio ) is a former American American football poker players on the position of the linebackers . He played for the Pittsburgh Steelers , the New England Patriots and the Kansas City Chiefs in the National Football League (NFL). After his active career, he became a trainer and has been Head Coach of the Tennessee Titans since January 2018 .
Career
Career as a player
Vrabel attended Ohio State University and played there on the defensive line . In the 1997 NFL Draft , he was selected in the third round by the Pittsburgh Steelers . There it was only used as a backup. That's why he moved to the New England Patriots after four years with the Steelers . There it was mainly used as a linebacker , but was also sometimes used as a tight end . Vrabel celebrated some successes with the Patriots. He won the Super Bowl three times in total: 2002 , 2004 and 2005 . In 2007 Vrabel was appointed to the First Team All-Pro and elected to the Pro Bowl . In 2009 he was traded to the Kansas City Chiefs with Matt Cassel . The Patriots received a second round draft pick, with which they later drafted Patrick Chung . Vrabel played for the Chiefs for two years before ending his active career in 2010.
Career as a coach
Vrabel has been a coach since the end of his playing career. He coached the Ohio State Buckeyes since July 2011, first as the linebacker coach and from 2012 to 2013 as the defensive line coach . On January 10, 2014, he was hired as the linebacker trainer for the Houston Texans . In 2017 he took over the position of Defensive Coordinator at the Texans.
On January 20, 2018, he was hired by the Tennessee Titans as head coach . In his first two years he led the Titans to 9 wins, which were offset by 7 losses. In 2019, however, they were able to move into the playoffs as runner-up in the AFC South . There they surprisingly first beat the current Super Bowl winner New England Patriots and then the highly favored Baltimore Ravens , before failing in the AFC Championship game at the later Super Bowl winner, the Kansas City Chiefs.
