The Minerva is a cruise ship that is chartered for Swan Hellenic . The ship is managed by V. Ships Leisure in Monaco .

history

The ship entered service as Minerva for Swan Hellenic Cruises in 1996 . Originally the ship was intended for the Soviet Navy . However, lack of money and perestroika meant that it was never completed. The hull was later towed to the Mariotti shipyard in Genoa , where a cruise ship was built from it. The ship offers space for 350 passengers in 198 cabins. Six decks are available for passengers.

Until 2003 the Minerva drove for Swan Hellenic. The ship was then used by Saga Cruises as the Saga Pearl . From the beginning of March 2005 to May 2008 he was Alexander von Humboldt for Phoenix Reisen during the summer months . In addition, the ship has been used as Explorer II by Abercrombie & Kent for expedition cruises in the Antarctic since 2003 in the winter months .

These charter contracts expired in May 2008 and the ship has since been operated under the old name Minerva after extensive conversion and renovation work at Swan Hellenic . From May 1, 2008, Phoenix Reisen operated a new ship called Alexander von Humboldt , the former Calypso .

Swan Hellenic used the ship mainly for cruises in the north of the country, the Baltic Sea , the Mediterranean , Antarctica and Africa . For use in the Antarctic, the ship is equipped with Zodiacs (large inflatable boats), which can be used to land on the coast.

In January 2017, the All Leisure Group , parent company of Swan Hellenic, filed for bankruptcy and the voyages by ship were canceled. The Canadian tour operator G Adventures took over Swan Hellenic and with it the Minerva in February 2017. The ship was then docked in Bremerhaven at the Lloyd shipyard, but then launched in Bremerhaven . At the end of September 2017 the ship was transferred to Greece.
