Member for Life (Original Title: Members Only ) is the first episode of the final, sixth season of the HBO series The Sopranos , which first aired on HBO in the United States on March 12, 2006 .

About two years have passed, Agent Harris is back from his assignment from Pakistan, Vito Spatafore has lost a lot of weight, Bobby Baccalieri, whose new hobby is model railways , had a child with Janice Soprano, Eugene Pontecorvo and his wife Deanne inherit two million dollars . With the Sopranos, however, everything has stayed the same: Meadow Soprano is engaged to Finn DeTrolio, Anthony Soprano, Jr. continues to be disinterested in the school and Carmela Soprano's house is unfinished. However, junior dementia is very advanced.

Phil Leotardo has been the interim boss of the Lupertazzi family since Johnny Sack was in prison. When Hesh Rabkin and his son-in-law are beaten up by members of the Lupertazzi family, Tony tries to resolve the matter through an intermediary with his friend Johnny Sack. But he has other worries in jail and so the DiMeo family under Tony has to negotiate with Phil. Phil agrees to a deal that involves paying Hesh's son-in-law and is valued internally by Tony, but his plans to kill Christopher have not been forgotten.

Eugene Pontecorvo inherited over two million dollars from his aunt, which would enable him and his wife Deanne to dream of retiring in Fort Myers , Florida . He is put under pressure by her, who no longer wants to live in the vicinity of the mob, to implement the resettlement. His request to his boss Tony to leave the Mafia, however, is refused. After Eugene carries out a contract killing for Christopher, he is also put under pressure by the FBI, which has just lost an important informant. This also forbids him to retire in Florida. Eugene then hangs himself in his basement.

Junior's dementia leads him to believe that his old nemesis "Little Pussy" Malanga, who was killed six years ago, is fighting him. When Tony enters Junior's house that evening, he thinks he is being attacked by Malanga. Junior shoots Tony and hides in the closet. With the last of his strength Tony can dial 911 before he loses consciousness.

Meaning of the title

The title "member for life" refers to the subplot about Eugene Pontecorvo, who has to learn in the episode that he cannot get out of the DiMeo family and ultimately takes his own life. The original English title "Members Only" is the name of a clothing brand whose jacket Eugene Pontecorvo wears.
