The Consto Arena is a football stadium in the Norwegian city ​​of Mjøndalen , Drammen municipality . The football club Mjøndalen IF (MIF for short) plays its games here in the facility.

history

The then Nedre Eiker Stadium was built in 1950. Eight years later, the venue was given a natural grass field . The capacity was increased in 1968. In the same year, a meeting between the MIF and Rosenborg Trondheim set a record of 15,300 spectators. In 1985 the seats were renewed and in 1992 a new building with changing rooms was built. At that time the stadium had 4,500 seats.

After renovations from 2011 to 2012, the renamed Mjøndalen Stadium was inaugurated on April 28th of that year. It now had 2,500 places. The facility was equipped, among other things, with a new main grandstand with 1,500 seats, an artificial turf field with lawn heating and a floodlight system.

The Mjøndalen IF rose to the 2015 season after 23 years back in the Tippeligaen , the highest Norwegian league. In the course of this, the Mjøndalen Stadium was rebuilt again to meet the minimum requirement of the NFF football association of 3,000 seats. The venue was expanded to 4,200 seats, including 3,000 seats. The work was completed by the start of the season on April 6, 2015 against Viking Stavanger . Nine million NOK was spent on the construction project . With the renovation, the facility was given the new sponsor name Isachsen Stadion , after the executing company Isachsen.

Since January 1, 2019, the venue has been named Consto Arena through a sponsorship agreement by the Consto Group.

Important games

Among other things, the first leg of the first round of the 1969/70 European Cup Winners' Cup between Mjøndalen IF and Cardiff City took place in the stadium. The Welsh won the game on September 16, 1969, 7-1. Furthermore, the second half of the first round of the 1977/78 UEFA Cup was played on September 28, 1977 . FC Bayern Munich were guests in the stadium and, after an 8-0 win in the first leg, also won the second leg against Mjøndalen IF 4-0. In the first round of the 1987/88 UEFA Cup , Mjøndalen IF met SV Werder Bremen on September 15, 1987 . The game ended with a 5-0 defeat for the home team. The team from Røa IL received VfL Wolfsburg in the round of 16 of the 2012/13 UEFA Women's Champions League . The later winners from Wolfsburg earned a 1-1 draw.

During the 2014 Women's U-19 European Football Championship , three matches were played in Mjøndalen. England and Ireland played against each other on July 18 (1: 2) and the Netherlands and Belgium (1: 0) on July 21. In the second semi-final on July 24th, Ireland lost 4-0 to the eventual European champions from the Netherlands.
