History and sights
The place name is probably related to moss ' Feuchtwiese '. The second name of the brook, Ofenlochbach , stands for Ofen 'rocky hollow form' (also 'cave'), probably in relation to valley in Langenberg near Modermühl. The word could have Slavic roots, as it is assumed here for Golling , and also occurs there with Ofenau .
The eponymous Moder mill still stands, an old, revitalized mill on stream in the woods.
Below the village on the Modermuehlbach is the Freimoos , a protected part of the landscape .
