history
The place has Roman roots: Cucullae , Cucullis , a post office on the Roman road Virunum - Iuvavum , which is recorded in the Tabula Peutingeriana , a Roman road map. The name is perhaps related to the Latin cucullus , pointed hat, Gugel , also called pointed mountain . Kuchl is also known for the Vita Sancti Severini with the candle miracle of Saint Severin (5th century) described there.
The close mix of Romanesque (Kuchl), Slavic (Golling) and Germanic place names shows the largely peaceful continuity of settlement from the departure of the Romans in the 5th century via the settlement of the Alpine Slavs to the missionary work by the Irish monk and Bishop Rupert and the Baiuvian conquest from 700 .
In 997, an exchange contract between the Kuchler servant Gezo and the Archbishop of Salzburg led to the establishment of a mother parish in Kuchl and finally to the establishment of a county and district court, which existed until the middle of the 15th century. Around 1380, Kuchl was elevated to a ban market. In 1850 the political market town of Kuchl was formed from the tax communities of Kuchl, Georgenberg, Kellau, Unterlangenberg and Weißenbach.

- Shoemaker's Day : On the first Monday after the birth of Mary (September 8th), the Shoemaker's Day is celebrated in Kuchl . It is a public holiday for all employees and their employers in the Kuchler companies. Nowadays all apprentices celebrate with their teachers. On this day, those involved gather in front of the guild hostel (Goldene Stiege) and march into the church and after a mass through the market. The pageant is led by the guild father who carries the guild cross. Behind it are the standard-bearers with the guild flag. Then the annual general meeting takes place in the hostel. There the trained apprentices are acquitted: The guild father hands them the journeyman's certificate . New masters are also accepted into the guild. The anniversary is named after the cobblers who were acquitted in the hostel until 1896.
