History and infrastructure

In the 13th or 14th century a “guet auf der Gurney ” is documented here, around 1334 a “pellifex [ Gerber ] de Gurnei ”, 1498 a “Leonhard Seydl auf der Gurney ”. So it seems to be a field name , perhaps in South Slavic gorn- 'mountain-', perhaps already handed down from Roman times. Later the official spelling is Garney .

Up until the 19th century there was a purely agricultural area here, only characterized by the Reichsstraße running towards the Tauglmaut , today's Salzachtal Straße  (B159). Seeleiten , Jagermeier (in the 19th century Jagermahr probably too dialectal Moar ), Winkler as well as Speckleiten , the core of today's towns, were some of the farms along or near the street. By the Second World War, Garnei comprised around 35 buildings.

The Giselabahn , the Salzburg – Tyrol line of the Western Railway, was built here from 1873 to 1875 . A stop was only set up in 2005 as part of the construction of the Salzburg S-Bahn , the Kuchl Garnei stop in Seeleiten .

In 1968 the Tauern Autobahn (today's A10) was opened, initially only up to the half-way connection to Kuchl near Speckleiten , in 1972 it was continued to Golling after the Salzach bridge south of Speckleiten had been completed. A quarry pond remained there, the Speckeisee , which is now used as a bathing lake.

Therefore, the location today is characterized by traffic. There were more and more company branches, including the concrete plant on the Taugl.
