history

Vicone or Figun was a large Roman village in the province of Noricum in ancient times . In the Middle Ages, it was first mentioned in a document in 748. The parish church of Vigaun was mentioned in a directory towards the end of the 8th century, in the Bishop Arno of Salzburg († 821), a favorite of Charlemagne , who lived in Salzburg and in Chiemgau had listed existing parish churches.

By decision of December 11, 1978, the Salzburg provincial government recognized the Barbara spring, which came to light in the Vigaun cadastral community, as a healing spring. Since June 26, 2002 the name of the municipality has been Bad Vigaun .
