Bad Vigaun is a municipality with 2059 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the Hallein district in the Salzburger Land in Austria .
geography
The community is located in the Tennengau , 15 kilometers south of Salzburg in the Salzburger Land between the Hagen and Tennen Mountains , Untersberg on the eastern roof of the Osterhorn Group (Salzburg Pre-Alps).
The Schlenken is Bad Vigaun's local mountain, the Taugl is a popular bathing area here.

The municipality includes the following four localities (population in brackets as of January 1, 2020):

The community consists of the cadastral communities Rengerberg and Vigaun.
Until the end of May 1923, the community belonged to the Golling judicial district , and since June 1, 1923, it has been part of the Hallein judicial district .

history
Vicone or Figun was a large Roman village in the province of Noricum in ancient times . In the Middle Ages, it was first mentioned in a document in 748. The parish church of Vigaun was mentioned in a directory towards the end of the 8th century, in the Bishop Arno of Salzburg († 821), a favorite of Charlemagne , who lived in Salzburg and in Chiemgau had listed existing parish churches.
By decision of December 11, 1978, the Salzburg provincial government recognized the Barbara spring, which came to light in the Vigaun cadastral community, as a healing spring. Since June 26, 2002 the name of the municipality has been Bad Vigaun .
Population development
In 2018 Bad Vigaun had 2,091 inhabitants. The increase in the population is mainly due to a positive birth balance, for example with +107 from 2001 to 2011.
Culture and sights
- Catholic parish church Bad Vigaun hl. Dionysius: The church was rebuilt from 1488 to 1516 as a late Gothic three-aisled east-facing hall church under a gable roof with a west tower and is surrounded by a cemetery with a high cemetery wall.
- Obersamhof chapel with hipped roof with a figure of St. Antonius by the sculptor Bernhard Prähauser from 1970
- The war memorial has a group of figures by the sculptor Jakob Adlhart from 1953
- The branch church of St. Margaretha in the parish of St. Margarethen is a late Gothic single-nave church with a remarkable Baroque outer pulpit with a Baroque canopy.

societies
In Bad Vigaun, a number of associations have set themselves the goal of preserving the customs of the country, such as the Bad Vigaun crib building association, the festival shooters, the Bad Vigaun traditional costume band and the traditional costume association d'Schmittenstoana as Schuhplattler .
Sports
From 1948 to 1963, the Tennengau community had its own football club, SK Vigaun . After his emigration to Hallein, a new club was only founded in 2000 with the UFC Bad Vigaun. The UFC Bad Vigaun plays for the promotion of the 2nd class North B in the 2007/08 season.
economy
The most important economic factor in the area is the Bad Vigaun Medical Center with a private clinic and the Heiltherme (sulfur baths), which make the community a health resort.
