The Montpellier Hérault Rugby Club is a rugby union club from the French city ​​of Montpellier in the Hérault department . He plays Top 14 in the highest French league . The home games are played in the GGL Stadium .

history

The city's first rugby club, Montpellier Sportif , was founded in 1900. 1963 follow Stade Montpelliérain ; from this split off in 1974 the Montpellier Université Club (MUC), which rose to the first division twelve years later. Also in 1986 joined Stade Montpellierain and the MUC back together and formed the Montpellier Rugby Club.

In 1998 Montpellier was relegated to the second division and the following year won the Challenge de l'Espérance, a cup competition for lower-class teams. In 2003, the association added the name Hérault to its name and introduced a new logo with a rock rose . In the same year Montpellier was champion of the second division Pro D2 and rose. In July 2007, the club moved to the newly built Stade Yves du Manoir (today: GGL Stadium), which with a capacity of 12,000 spectators (excluding seats) is almost twice as large as the previously used Stade Sabathé.
