The Morell family is a proven Savoyard family in Konstanz since the Reformation . The Morell sat in the 16th century in the council of the cities of Konstanz and Freiburg im Breisgau , in the 17th in the Great Council of Ravensburg , in the 18th also in the Inner Council of Augsburg . Since 1662 the family also had the citizenship rights of the city of Bern . The family there belonged to the company of merchants and expired in 1883 in the male line . In the imperial city of Lindau , the Morell belonged to the nobility at the end of the 17th century .

The surname Morell is u. a. detectable in the Chablais , the Savoyard fringe of Lake Geneva . Peter Morell was accepted as a citizen in Constance in 1555 as the son-in-law of the Savoyard Andreas Kürsner. On March 8, 1555, King Ferdinand I had awarded Hans Morell († 1576) from Constance a herbländisch Austrian coat of arms without any fief articles . This coat of arms is shown in Siebmacher's Wappenbuch, 2nd volume from 1703, in the section of the Lindau Adeliche family . Another Hans Morell was a member of the Small Council in Constance from 1582 to 1603. The cartographer and engraver Johann Morell (1604–1672) was councilor of the imperial city of Ravensburg and was sent to the Reichstag in Regensburg as a Protestant member of the Reichstag in 1654 and 1669 , where he stayed until 1671. Morell's coat of arms also adorns the portrait of his great-grandson, the lawyer Johann Georg Morell (born September 3, 1690 in Ravensburg, † August 6, 1763 in Augsburg). In 1730 he became councilor of the Inner Council and mayor of the imperial city of Augsburg. He had held this office for 24 years when he was elected master builder in 1754 , with the associated scholarchate . His son Johann Gottfried Morell (1720–1789) was also a member of the Inner Council, as well as an Imperial Palatine count , master builder and scholarch of Augsburg. His portrait is also adorned with the Morell coat of arms.

The salt bookkeeper Hans Jakob Morell (II.) (1616–1663) was accepted as a permanent resident of Bern in 1643, he received full citizenship rights in 1662. The Morell bowl, which the brothers Niklaus Bernhard and Karl Friedrich Morell in 1794 owned, should come from his possession gave to the archery society. Abraham Morell and his son Karl Friedrich Morell owned the pharmacy on Berner Kreuzgasse from 1764 to 1836, today's town hall pharmacy in the house of the Society for Carpenters .

In Augsburg, Morellstrasse was named after the mayor and architect Johann Georg Morell (1690–1763). In turn, she gave its name to the Augsburg Morellstrasse train station .
