Moritz Franz Kasimir von Wobersnow (born March 5, 1708 in Kamissow , † July 23, 1759 at Kay ) was a Prussian major general of the infantry and adjutant general of King Friedrich II.

Life

origin

He came from the Pomeranian noble family von Wobersnow and was a son of Moritz Georg von Wobersnow (* 1677; † after 1759), heir to Kamissow and his wife Anne Elisabeth, née Manteuffel from the Popelow house .

Military career

In 1723 Wobersnow joined the "Grumkow" infantry regiment of the Prussian army as a flagjunker . With the Crown Prince Friedrich he was transferred to the "Moulin" regiment. There he became major in August 1747 . In August 1751 he received the prebend of the Minden monastery for his services . In March 1752 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and appointed wing adjutant . He also got the supervision of the Feldjägerkorps on horseback . He also accompanied the king on his campaign to Saxony.

Wobersnow was wounded in the Battle of Prague on May 6, 1757, but soon recovered. He fought near Roßbach and Leuthen . After Leuthen, he was appointed major general on December 5th. The king then sent him to the army of Dohna, which stood against the Russians. In August 1758 he fought in the Battle of Zorndorf and helped to drive the Russians out of Landsberg an der Warthe in September .

In February 1759 he got his own corps with which he (together with Puttkamer ) moved from Silesia to Poland. There he had the order to destroy Russian magazines. He stayed with his troops until he ran out of food and had to return to Silesia. He took Prince Sulkowski with him, who was arrested for supporting the Russian troops in his residence in Lissa and brought to Glogau . He himself went back to the army of Dohna . In June the army moved against the Russians towards Poland . General Wobersnow led the advance guard. He was killed in the Battle of Kay on July 23, 1759.

Moritz Franz Kasimir von Wobersnow was the heir to Kamissow, Natztow and Wugarten.

Prince Heinrich of Prussia dedicated a plaque on his Rheinsberg obelisk to him . His name was also immortalized in 1851 on one of the plaques on the equestrian statue of Frederick the Great .

Moritz Franz Kasimir von Wobersnow was married to Maria Luise von Suckow (1717–1756). The couple had a daughter and three sons:
