Mustafa Yücedağ (born April 25, 1966 in Gaziantep , † February 17, 2020 in Zaandam ) was a Dutch - Turkish football player and coach.
Career
Player career
Yücedağ was born in the southeast Turkish city of Gaziantep and moved with his family to the Netherlands as a child . Here he began to play for the youth department of Ajax Amsterdam . From 1985 he began to participate in the training of the professional team. In his first season he completed a league game for the 1st team. For the new season he moved to PEC Zwolle within the Eredivisie . For this club he played the next two seasons and left this after the club missed relegation in the summer of 1988.
In the summer of 1988, Yücedağ moved to Turkey and hired the Istanbul first division club Sarıyer GK . At this club he immediately established himself as a regular player. With his club, he finished the season fourth in the first league and thus ensured the repetition of the best first division placement in the club's history. During this season, Yücedağ also rose to the Turkish national team. After another convincing season at Sarıyer, he became one of the most sought-after players of the 1990 summer transfer period. Yücedağ accepted the offer from Galatasaray Istanbul and moved to this city rival. At this club, Yücedağ did not succeed as a regular player. He had played 18 competitive matches by the end of the season and played in eleven games from the start. His club played for a long time for the Turkish championship and finished the league behind arch rivals Beşiktaş Istanbul as runner-up. In the same season, Yücedağ was able to win the Turkish Cup with his team .
At the beginning of his second season for Galatasaray he was able to win the TSYD Istanbul Cup with this club . This season he has made more competitive appearances than in the previous one. With his team he reached the quarter-finals of the European Cup Winners' Cup of the 1991/92 season . In the quarterfinals, his team met the eventual tournament winner Werder Bremen . In two hard-fought games, his club was eliminated against Bremen. In the league they quickly lost touch with the top of the table and ended the season in 3rd place in the table. For the new season, his club signed Karl-Heinz Feldkamp as the new head coach. He was the first to carry out a squad revision and sorted out some players for sale, including Yücedağ.
After Yücedağ was sorted out at Galatasaray, he moved to arch-rivals Fenerbahçe Istanbul . Here he was used by head coach Jozef Vengloš until the winter break in only two league games. And so he switched to his old club Sarıyer SK before the start of the second half. For this club he only played until the end of the season and then moved on to BV De Graafschap . He also stayed with this club only for a short time and was hired in November 1993 for the first division club Gaziantepspor , the club in his hometown. Here he only played until the end of the season. After Yücedağ had spent the 1994/95 season at Sarıyer, he ended his career in the summer of 1995.
National team
Yücedağ began his international career with a commitment for the Turkish U-21 national team . After another game for the U-21, he was the Turkish national team coach Metin Türel in the squad of the Turkish national team nominated. He then made his international debut in the test match against the GDR national soccer team .
Coaching career
Yücedağ started working at Gaziantepspor as a junior coach from March 2008 . At the end of the season he was promoted to assistant coach of the professional team and assisted the head coach Nurullah Sağlam . From summer 2009 to October 2010, Yücedağ was Frank Rijkaard's interpreter during his tenure as head coach of Galatasaray Istanbul.
At the beginning of September 2013 he took over the fourth division team Ankara Şekerspor as head coach and worked in this position for the first time. Yücedağ died on February 17, 2020 as a result of a heart attack .
