Nakkila is a municipality in the western Finnish landscape of Satakunta with 5437 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2018). It is located around 20 kilometers south-east of the port town of Pori on both sides of the Kokemäenjoki River .
The municipality was detached from the city of Ulvila in 1861 and includes the villages of Arantila, Anola, Järvikylä, Kivialho, Kukonharja, Lammainen, Leistilä, Masia, Matomäki, Pakkala, Penttala, Ruhade, Ruskila, Soinila, Tattara, Viikkala, Villilä and Vuohimäki. Nakkila maintains town twinning with the towns of Hudiksvall ( Sweden ) and Boksitogorsk ( Russia ).
Agriculture and handicrafts are traditionally important; Since the 19th century, the rocking chairs made in Nakkila have been sold at home and abroad. Today, however, the metal and textile industries dominate. The largest local employer with around 300 employees is the factory of the Suominen Kuitukankaat Oy textile group .
One of the sights in Nakkila is the parish church built in 1938 according to plans by Erkki Huttunen, the first church in Finland to be built using functionalist concrete. The main building of the old Villilä Manor, built in 1852, is an outstanding example of Empire style in Finland. Today there is a film studio on the grounds of the manor, which is sometimes referred to as the “Hollywood of Finland”, but which looks considerably less glamorous than the American model.
