Nassim Ben Khalifa (born January 13, 1992 in Prangins ) is a Swiss football player of Tunisian origin. He is usually used in midfield as a playmaker or as a striker . He currently plays at the Grasshopper Club Zurich .

Life

Nassim Ben Khalifa's parents emigrated from Tunisia to Europe and went to Switzerland . They settled in the French-speaking part of the country .

career

In the club

There he started playing football for the Stade Nyonnais club, and when he was young he switched to FC Gland and then to FC Lausanne-Sport . In July 2008 he joined the Grasshopper Club Zurich and at the end of the 2008/09 season he made his first professional appearances as a substitute. He scored his first goal at the beginning of the following season in the 90th minute to make it 3-1 in the home game against FC Sion , seven minutes after being substituted on.

In February 2010, VfL Wolfsburg announced that they had signed Ben Khalifa for the 2010/11 season . At Lower Saxony, he received a four-year contract and was only used in the second team in the Regionalliga Nord in the first half of the season , where he came on six missions in which he scored two goals.

Since Ben Khalifa did not make a single appearance in the first team in the first half of the season, he was awarded to 1. FC Nürnberg on January 14, 2011 for a year and a half . There he first played games in the 2nd team as well as in the U-19 juniors. On March 5, 2011 he finally made his debut in the Bundesliga team in a 5-0 win against FC St. Pauli , in which he also gave the template for the meanwhile 4-0 by Christian Eigler .

For the 2011/12 season , Ben Khalifa returned to Switzerland and signed a loan deal with BSC Young Boys from Bern . He scored his first goal of the season on September 21, 2011 in a 4-1 win over Neuchâtel Xamax , when he scored 1-0.

On August 25, 2011 Ben Khalifa received in the second leg of the Europa League play-offs against Braga , in the 62nd minute after the intermittent 1-1 draw by Emmanuel Mayuka , a dismissal for alleged assault on Braga's goalkeeper Quim .

On June 22nd, 2012, VfL Wolfsburg announced that Ben Khalifa would be loaned to Grasshopper Club Zurich for two seasons . On May 5, 2014, Ben Khalifa was signed on. He signed a contract until June 30, 2017.

For the 2015/16 season he moved to Turkey to the first division club Eskişehirspor . This club loaned him to KV Mechelen for the second half of the season .

On June 20, 2017, his move from FC Lausanne-Sport to FC St. Gallen was announced.

In the national team

Ben Khalifa has been appointed several times for all Swiss junior selection teams from U-15 to U-18. So he took part with the U-17 in the European Championships in 2008 and 2009 as well as in the World Championships in 2009 , where he won the title with his team. He was used in all seven games right from the start, scored four goals, prepared three more and finished second in the election for the best player of the tournament. On August 11, 2010, Ben Khalifa made his debut in the 1-0 victory of the Swiss national team over Austria.
