Nathaniel Lawrence "Nate" Guenin (born December 10, 1982 in Sewickley , Pennsylvania ) is a retired American ice hockey player . Between 2006 and 2017, the defender played over 200 games for five teams in the National Hockey League , most of them for the Colorado Avalanche . Mostly, however, he was used in the American Hockey League .
Career
Nate Guenin was initially active for the Pittsburgh Hornets before the defender ran from 2000 to 2002 for the Green Bay Gamblers in the junior league United States Hockey League , where he was elected to the league's all-rookie team in the 2000/01 season. He was then selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2002 in the fourth round as a total of 127th player by the New York Rangers , for which he never played. Instead, the defender attended Ohio State University for four years while playing for their ice hockey team in the National Collegiate Athletic Association . In 2005 he was elected to the second All-Star Team of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association .
On August 16, 2006, Guenin signed a contract as a free agent with the Philadelphia Flyers , for whose farm team Philadelphia Phantoms he was regularly on the ice in the American Hockey League for the following three seasons . In addition, during this period he made a total of twelve appearances for the Flyers themselves in the National Hockey League . In July 2009 he was hired as a free agent by the Pittsburgh Penguins , for which he then only played two NHL games, while he spent the rest of the time with their AHL farm team Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins . On February 11, 2010 he was given in exchange for Steve Wagner to the St. Louis Blues , but played until the end of the 2009/10 season exclusively for their AHL farm team Peoria Rivermen .
The 2010/11 season began Guenin with the Springfield Falcons in the AHL and also came in parallel to three missions for their cooperation partner Columbus Blue Jackets in the NHL. Since January 2011 he has been under contract with the Anaheim Ducks from the NHL, for whose AHL farm team Syracuse Crunch he was a regular on the ice until the end of the 2011/12 season. On October 7, 2011 Guenin scored his first NHL goal when he met in the 1: 4 loss to the Buffalo Sabers to 1: 2 connection goal for the Anaheim Ducks.
In July 2013, Guenin signed a one-year contract with the Colorado Avalanche , which was extended for two more seasons the following year. He then returned to the Anaheim Ducks as a free agent. However, they only used him with the San Diego Gulls in the AHL and did not extend his contract in July 2017. As a result, Guenin ended his active career.
