National Park House
The information and education center of a national park in German-speaking countries is referred to as the National Park House.
description
National park houses exist in almost all national parks in Germany and Austria at visitor focal points or in entrance areas and provide clear information and support through multimedia or multivisionary display techniques about the natural history and characteristics of the respective large protected area or the landscape in which the respective national park is embedded.
National park houses also provide information about the hiking trails and the range of events and are the first point of contact for park visitors. There are usually other facilities in their vicinity, such as restaurants, game reserves, playgrounds, barefoot paths or, as in the example of the Hainich National Park , the treetop path . National park houses also offer space for changing art and special exhibitions related to nature topics and national parks. In terms of conception, type of sponsorship and size, however, national park houses can be very different. Newer national park houses are multimedia theme centers such as B. the Molln National Park Center , the Müritzeum and the “ House of the Mountains ” in Berchtesgaden . They are not intended to replace experiences in nature, but to arouse interest in deepening interesting facts outside. On the other hand, dimensions can be made tangible that would otherwise remain hidden to the average national park visitor, such as the depths of the Königsee and the summit regions of the Alpine mountains in the example of the Berchtesgaden National Park.
Just like natural history museums , national park houses are an important pillar for environmental education . The number of visitors confirms this fact. For the Königstuhl National Park Center, for example, 187,000 visitors are reported in the first year and 310,100 in the following year 2005.
Similar visitor facilities are also available for the following other types of large protected areas: biosphere reserve , nature park , geopark .
