The Natural Bridge State Park is located in the small town of North Adams in northwestern Massachusetts (USA).
The state park is home to the only natural white marble stone bridge in North America. According to geologists, the natural bridge that gives the park its name was built from 550 million year old marble that was eroded by glacial melt water over a period of 13,000 years.
At the beginning of the 20th century, marble was mined and processed on the site of what is now the State Park. For this purpose a marble dam was built, the dammed water of which drove a 120 kW Francis turbine at a height of 15 m. The energy was needed for the neighboring marble mill. The machinery was completely destroyed in a fire on April 4, 1947.
