history
The concept of using previously undeveloped land in the greater Boston area through a system of interconnected parks was developed by the landscape architect Charles Eliot , who had already worked with Frederick Law Olmsted and took over the management of his company in 1893. Eliot was primarily responsible for establishing the Trustees of Reservations and the Metropolitan Parks Public Commission in the 1890s, and endeavored to expand the network of parks to the Boston area.
The first five areas acquired by the Metropolitan Park Commission for this system in 1893 were Beaver Brook Reservation , Blue Hills Reservation , Hemlock Gorge Reservation , Middlesex Fells Reservation, and Stony Brook Reservation .
