The Charles River Reservation Parkways are a group of parkways along the banks of the Charles River in the eastern part of the state of Massachusetts of the United States . The roads are part of the Charles River Reservation and Upper Charles River Reservation Conservation Areas and run through the territory of several cities and towns in the Greater Boston metropolitan area . The road system is administered by the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) and is part of the Metropolitan Park System of Greater Boston .

The parkways stretch from Charles River Dam , where the Charles River flows into Boston Harbor , to Riverdale Park in the West Roxbury district of Boston . Most of the streets were listed as a whole on the National Register of Historic Places , however Storrow Drive and Memorial Drive are already part of the Charles River Basin Historic District and have therefore been excluded from double listing.

On the other hand, the streets stretch from Harvard Square to Newton Upper Falls . The streets along the river banks were expanded at the beginning of the 20th century to allow a continuous path through the park.
