management
The Boston Harbor Islands National Recreation Area is administered by the Boston Harbor Islands Partnership , which was legally established by the state. Members represent a variety of federal, state, city, and non-profit organizations . These are:
- United States National Park Service
- United States Coast Guard
- Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation
- Massachusetts Port Authority
- Massachusetts Water Resources Authority
- City of Boston
- Boston Redevelopment Authority
- Boston Harbor Island Alliance
- Thompson Island Outward Bound Education Center
- Trustees of Reservations
The Boston Harbor Islands Advisory Council is also a member of the partnership to provide recommendations for managing the park to the other partners. The committee consists of a total of 13 people, each of whom appoints a deputy. While the Coast Guard representative is appointed by the United States Secretary of Homeland Security , all other members are appointed by the United States Secretary of the Interior after coordinating with the sending organization.
The day-to-day management of each individual island is the responsibility of one of the partners. In this way, the partnership ensures a high level of consistency and coordination throughout the protected area.

Due to the unusual partnership agreements within the Recreation Area , the State Park still exists as an administrative unit and is managed by the Department of Conservation and Recreation as the successor organization to the DEM. The park administration is located near the ferry terminal in Hingham .
The islands belonging to the state park are:
