Cultivation of the island probably goes back to the time before the colonization by the Europeans. The agricultural use is secured for around 300 years, which lasted until the 1940s. With the end of the management, nature gradually returned, so that Grape Island today has trees and bushes again. The island was never used for military purposes, but a skirmish took place there in 1775, which became known as the "Battle of Grape Island".
