The Chestnut Hill Reservation area is a state park around the Chestnut Hill Reservoir in the Boston districts of Allston and Brighton in the state of Massachusetts in the United States . It is part of the Metropolitan Park System of Greater Boston and is administered by the Department of Conservation and Recreation .

The current protected area was laid out in the 19th century and is still considered a masterpiece of engineering , urban planning and landscape architecture . It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a well-known Boston landmark . The park can be reached on the Green Line C from Cleveland Circle station .

The park offers many trails for hiking and opportunities for swimming , skating and fishing .
