Nantasket Beach

Nantasket Beach is a beach in Hull . in the state of Massachusetts in the United States . The area comprises a total of 26 acres (0.1 km²) and is administered by the Department of Conservation and Recreation and is part of the Metropolitan Park System of Greater Boston . The beach is made of fine, light gray sand and is one of the most populated beaches in the Greater Boston metropolitan area . There are several acres of tidal pools there at low tide .

Origin of name

The name “Nantasket” is derived from a word from the Wampanoag language and means “on the strait” or “place of low water”. Nantasket was settled shortly after the Plymouth Colony and before the Massachusetts Bay Colony . Until the incorporation of Hull in 1644, the English settlers referred to the entire region as the "Nantasket Peninsula".

As time went on, many hotels settled near the beach, and steamships offered connections to Boston three times a day in the 1840s . The Paragon Park amusement park was created right on the coast, but closed in 1984.
