The Diepeschrather Wald nature reserve extends between the Katterbach and Paffrath districts of Bergisch Gladbach . It borders to the west (clockwise) on the Heidgen forest settlement and Katterbacher Strasse, to the north on Badstrasse (forest path), east on Herkenfelder Weg and south on the single building Neudiepeschrath, where the Weidenbach coming from the north flows through the site. The Diepeschrath settlement area (Diepeschrather Mühle) is located south of the nature reserve.

vegetation

The protected area is characterized by forest stands with mixed deciduous forests , floodplain and swamp forests as well as spring swamps with strongly changing humidity and different nutrient conditions.

Nature conservation serves in particular

  • the maintenance and protection of rivers ,
  • securing the function as a biotope network area ,
  • the preservation and safeguarding of the habitat for rare plants and animal species such as orchids , geophytes and amphibians ,
  • Maintaining and securing the water balance in the wet areas,
  • Conservation and development of structurally rich, hardwood-dominated and site-appropriate forest communities,
  • Preservation and development of the wet and humid areas and the swamp forests.
