The eighth season of the American crime series NCIS celebrated its premiere in the US on 21 September 2010 at the transmitter CBS . The finale was broadcast on May 17, 2011. In Germany, the season started on February 13, 2011 on Sat.1 . In Switzerland, the season has been broadcast on 3+ since February 15, 2011 .

This season, the series' highest ratings ever with 22.85 million viewers were achieved in the USA.

A corpse is found on the campus of the Annapolis Naval Academy who wanted to meet an admiral there. The team quickly realized that the dead man had come from Switzerland in a private jet just a few hours earlier. To everyone's surprise, Tony's father was on board. After the initial worry that something might have happened to him, it turns out that he is fine and that he even has the crucial connections to solve the case. But the team is surprised when Gibbs asks Tony's father to help them with their investigation.

The team gains access to suspicious account data through a credit card fraudster. During their subsequent investigation, however, they encounter a Mossad advance command. This is in the country to protect its director, Ziva's father, during an NCIS conference. The tension between the teams and the confrontation with Ziva's past result in a few surprises. Because at the same time a terrorist squad is trying to kill Ziva's father with stolen American high-tech weapons. This can be prevented, but Leon Vance, Eli David and his bodyguards run into a momentous ambush at the end of the episode.

The bodyguard dead, Leon Vance badly wounded, and Eli David gone. Tensions between the teams are peaking and threatening to escalate. The trail leads to Amsterdam, where Leon Vance had his very first assignment. It soon becomes clear that one of those involved at the time is responsible for the current attack. While Vance struggles to survive in the hospital, the team tries to unmask the culprit.

A Navy recruiter is killed in a school. After the initial suspicion that it could be robbery, the homosexual background becomes more and more evident in the course of the investigation, which plays an important role, which gives the case a political explosiveness that should not be underestimated. During the fall, the team receives a visit because Ducky's predecessor comes to NCIS to find his past again. Jimmy Palmer is still absent and Director Leon Vance has trouble concentrating on his work after his serious injury.

At the beginning of the episode, McGee realizes that his identity has once again been stolen and bought on the Internet with his credit card. But a dead Marines sergeant, a reservist, prevents him from doing his own research. The investigation shows that the sergeant was beaten to death with an initially unknown weapon. The wife, a Gunnery Sergeant, and her six-year-old son are first missing, but then reappear. In a billiard hall, the team finds the first traces and clues to the dead sergeant's girlfriend. In the course of the investigation, anyone who saw or spoke to the sergeant shortly before his death comes under suspicion of murder. During the investigation it comes to light that the dead Marine had beaten his wife to hospital several times during his lifetime, but she refused any help from the Corps. Abby provides the surprising solution to the case because she can trace a small piece of wood back to Ireland. Tony, however, solves McGee's identity theft.

The NCIS team receives an unexpected visit from a Miami psychologist, Dr. Rachel Cranston. She convinces Vance to have the team examined. At the same time, Gibbs and his team have to solve a murder case of a Navy commander who was found dead in his bunk on board a ship. Over time, it turns out that Rachel is the sister of Kate Todd, the former colleague of Gibbs and Co. Apparently, it's not just the team in need of therapy, but the psychologist herself, who are looking for clues to Kates last moments of life.

The defense minister of the fictional country Belgravia wants to forge a defense alliance with the USA. A radical splinter group wants to prevent this by all means. Gibbs' team is tasked with protecting the minister's daughter, Adriana, which she considers excessive. After McGee and Tony failed to prevent Adriana's kidnapping, the team has 48 hours to find her before they both lose their jobs. Tony believes the kidnapping was only possible with the help of Adriana, who disagrees with her father's policies. But after there is a ransom demand and the team found one of the kidnappers dead, the question arises what happened to Adriana.

A pickpocket leads the team to a maimed and tortured to death Marine. After investigating for quite a while, the team discovers that the killer was not targeting the marine, but that the marine accidentally fell victim. The real target of the murderer is a young computer game expert who stumbled upon a secret code in a computer game by chance. Now it has to be determined what this code is for and for whom it was intended. To do this, Gibbs has to be guided through a dangerous maze by McGee in the shortest possible time in order to get to a computer that is able to erase all data on the Pentagon.

In a parking garage, a dead person is found under a car, who quickly turns out to be a former NCIS employee. The team finds a connection to an already imprisoned investment fraudster who has not only stolen their money from Navy members, but also from criminals. But they want their money back by all means and they also go over dead bodies for it.

The team comes into the office and finds case files on their desks belonging to a 2 week old Metro Police case. Gibbs doesn't know about anything, but Director Vance gives them direct orders to investigate the matter. The son of a Marine Col. is accused of killing his father with an ax. Since the Col. was a friend of Vance, he expects a confession at all costs. But the son can no longer properly remember the night because he was on a drug intoxication at the time. In the end, only Gibbs believes in the boy's innocence and continues to investigate. Later it turns out that not only the boy had a motive for the murder of the Col., but also a neighbor and his own wife and mother of the boy.

A Navy intelligence agent is found handcuffed and shot dead. There was one more message he could leave before he died - Birdsong. This turns out to be the name of a secret mission that a book of the same title has been written about. When a corpse is found in connection with the book, the question arises: is it about the book or something completely different? In the course of the episode, Gibbs is repeatedly invited by his 2nd ex-wife to their wedding, which the latter categorically refuses.

A new serial killer is now up to mischief in the Washington area. The team begins to investigate and immediately encounters several obstacles. On the one hand, it becomes clear that the perpetrator has already struck worldwide, and on the other, Gibbs is supposed to work on his case under the direction of Special Agent EJ Barrett. And Tony's breaking rule number 12 doesn't make things any easier.

But how can you commit murder if you've died yourself first? The team is initially faced with a puzzle. Further turbulence overshadows the case, a new team is formed and Tony is reluctant to give up his relationship, to the displeasure of Gibbs.

The past and present meet when Tony's ex-partner is murdered by the Baltimore PD. The act looks very much like the port killer who has been preoccupying the NCIS for some time now. But the key to the action lies in the case that first brought Tony to Gibbs and brought him to NCIS. The port killer also provides valuable information on solving the case and it is becoming increasingly clear that he must have access to NCIS internals.

Mike Franks returns to DC and has to pay with his life for it. After Gibbs' and Barrett's team teamed up to catch the port killer and came across Trent Kort, who explained to them that a man named Jonas Cobbs was the port killer, Gibbs brought his old master on board to bring Cobbs down put. According to Kort, Cobbs is his former CIA agent and is “derailed”. The CIA had sent Kort after him and that made him lose an eye. After a confrontation between Franks and Cobbs, Franks dies after Cobbs struck him down with his own weapon.

The events come thick and fast. Gibbs and his team try to save EJ's team, only to find they can't save everyone anymore. Cobbs uses Ray as bait to kidnap Ziva, only to then face NCIS. That, too, turns out to be a pre-planned move to get revenge, for which he ultimately pays the highest price.
