The New Zealand State Highway 93 ( State Highway 93 or SH 93 for short ) is a trunk road of national importance on the South Island of New Zealand .
geography
The trunk road has a length of 43 km and is located in the southern part of the South Island. The two-lane road over its entire length (one in each direction of travel) connects State Highway 1 near Clinton with the somewhat more western part of State Highway 1 near Mataura , south of Gore . The road runs through parts of the Otago and Southland regions .
Routing
The State Highway 93 begins at the junction of State Highway 1 in the western part of the small town Clinton and leads out of the village on its southwest side. After an initially south-westerly course, after a total of 6 km the road swings in a westerly direction, which it maintains until shortly before Mataura , its end point. On the way through mostly flat land, only interrupted by small chains of hills, the SH 93 meets the two small settlements of Otaraia and Ferndale , before the road curves around 4.5 km from its end point in a wide arc to the south-west, then by 270 m before it ends in the small town of Mataura in a right bend over the Mataura River and in the intersection area to State Highway 1 still crosses the railway line of the South Island Main Trunk Railway .
