At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1931 in Oberhof in Thuringia ( Germany ), a ski jumping competition was held on the large hill ( K -55).
The ski jump on the Hindenburgschanze took place on Sunday, February 15, 1931 in front of around 30,000 spectators. Around 70 ski jumpers took part in the competition, 65 of whom were able to classify.
The young Norwegian Birger Ruud won the special jumping event with widths of 56.5 and 58.5 meters ahead of the surprise Fritz Kaufmann from Switzerland, who thus reached the peak of his career, and Sven Eriksson from Sweden.

Date: Sunday, February 15, 1931
Participants: 91 named; 67-70 started; 65 rated; Originally 86 ski jumpers had registered for the event, but four Swiss and one Norwegian had named after and received the last five starting numbers 87-91.
Ski jump: Hindenburgschanze
The 12-year-old Kurt Eichhorn started as a jump-in, who shortly before went off the hill in this role at the German championships in Lauscha-Erntthal .
The 1931 World Cup also marked the final international breakthrough for the young Norwegian trio Birger Ruud , Reidar Andersen and Sven Eriksson (Selånger) , who continued their intense sporting rivalry throughout the decade. While Birger Ruud won a total of five gold medals at the Olympic Winter Games and World Ski Championships (even 7 if the Olympic medals were counted twice as World Cup medals) and was the only one who challenged Matti Nykänen for the title of " Greatest Ski Jumper of All Time ", neither Selånger nor Andersen could ever win a ski jump. Earn gold medal. Selånger won gold in Nordic combined , and Andersen won the prestigious jumping competition on Holmenkollbakken three times .
According to Svenska Dagbladet , there were 15 falls in the first and 8 falls in the second run.
The lists of results from the sources show slight differences from rank 40 onwards. Knut Knobberstad is named as the penultimate, it seems likely that Adolf Engel from Brotterode took the last place in the ranking.
Esko Järvinen , FIN, may have only started in the first run. Also Josef Burkert and Eduard Porkert (both from HDW) have not jumped all likelihood more than once.
