The Nordstadt ( Danish : Nordstaden ) of Flensburg is located north of the Neustadt which in turn is north of the Flensburg city center . It consists of three city districts. First, Harrisleer Kreuz, at Harrislee , to the second Galwik and as the third Klues , with the Klueser Wald . The name of the Flensburg district Südstadt is evidently an analogy to the name of the Nordstadt, where the Pauluskirche is located.

history

The area in the past

Large parts of the area belonged to the undeveloped urban field of Flensburg in the Middle Ages. According to an old legend, a robber baron should have lived in the castle of Flensbeck near Mordbeck, which was probably in the area. Like the well-known robber baron of Eddeboe, he is said to have been attacked and killed by the Flensburgers. According to legend, the said area is said to have come to the city in this way. When the city wall and city gates were built in 1345 , the area remained undeveloped outside the city. In the course of industrialization in the 19th century, which did not fully develop until the Prussian era , more and more companies settled down by the water, at the bay called Galwik . The north city began to grow. On April 1, 1909, what is now the Klues area was incorporated. In 1908/1909 the St. Petri Church , which also functions as a church for the new town , was built on the outskirts of the northern part of the city. Some of the buildings erected at that time were registered as cultural monuments of the district . In 1916 parts of the Klues forest were finally incorporated. During the Second World War , the district was hit several times during the air raids on Flensburg . In 1977 MoinMoin was founded in Batteriestraße , the publishing house of which is now in the Friesischer Berg district.

The north city nowadays

The age structure of the district largely corresponds to that of the overall population structure of Flensburg, with an above-average proportion of foreigners in this district. The Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft is the largest employer in the district. The Ramsharde street is also located in the Klues district , where today's Ramsharde area is also located. The TTC Ramsharde , from 1955, is based there in the area. From the lido Ostseebad you can walk to the adjacent aquatic life in a very short time . Nowadays, people are thinking about improving the appearance of the northern part of the city at the Flensburg harbor in some cases. In the next few years, a new district is to be built in Schwarzenbachtal .
