Norman is a city about 35 km south of Oklahoma City , Oklahoma . According to an estimate by the US Census Bureau, the city has around 122,000 inhabitants (as of 2016), including 25,000 students. Norman is just off Interstate 35, which runs north to Oklahoma City and south to Dallas .

Norman has an area of 490.8 km². The urban area is about 350 m above sea level. Outside the actual precincts of the area west of the city is occupied by plains, to the east lies the Reservoir Lake Thunderbird , which the Little River dams, in an open woodland landscape ( Cross Timbers ).

University of Oklahoma
The main campus of the University of Oklahoma (abbreviation OU) is located in Norman . It houses the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History and the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art . The Fred Jones Jr. Museum houses the Weitzenhoffer Collection, an important art collection with works by Mary Cassatt , Vincent van Gogh , Paul Gauguin , Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Camille Pissarro, among others . In addition, the National Weather Center is part of the OU, which, among other things, deals with research into cyclones and includes various NOAA institutes .

In addition to Norman's 20 public elementary and middle schools, the city's youth are divided between two high schools: Norman High School and Norman North High School, the latter of which is the newer.
Sports
The OU football team won the college championships, the BIG 12, several times, including in 2000. The OU team's declared archenemy is the University of Texas (UT) team. If OU plays UT, the game will take place in Dallas.
The nickname of the team is "Sooners", their colors are - according to the colors of the university - dark red and white, whereby the mascot is the "Sooner Schooner".
There is the Bart Conner Gymnastics Academy by Bart Conner and Nadia Comaneci in the village .
