North Alone is a punk rock band around the Osnabrück singer, songwriter and guitarist Manuel North.

history

Manuel North was the singer of the punk rock band Mad Conscience in the 1990s . When the band broke up on April 7, 2000 after a concert as the opening act for Beatsteaks and Bouncing Souls , he founded the post-hardcore band Rusticate . In the nine years of its existence, the band released the EP What's Behind the Fences of Your Smile and the two albums Reproaches & Regards and The Education Thing . Despite her almost 200 concerts in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Slovenia, the Czech Republic and the Netherlands, Rusticate never got beyond the status of a newcomer. Appearances in the opening act did not change anything , including The Draft , Chuck Ragan , Tribute to Nothing , Muff Potter , Disco Ensemble or Escapado . In 2011 the band split.

After the end of Rusticate , Manuel North first founded the band North and About , which after two demo CDs with cover versions released their first album Me, My Guitar & You in early 2012 . The band played at various festivals, including the Deichbrand Open Air , the Area4 Festival and the Stemwede Open Air . The band broke up in 2014.

Manuel North began to perform more and more solo and after a short time he named his solo project North Alone and released the solo EP Missing Heart Shadow under this name in the summer of 2012 . In the summer of 2013, his first solo album, Collecting Pictures , was released, on which So-Kumneth Sim played the violin for the first time.

North Alone's first vinyl release was released in spring 2014. Greetings from Someone Else was released as a 7 ". Work on the next recording began in the summer of the same year. He was supported as a backing band by the Osnabrück punk rock band Halfway Decent , with whom he recorded a five-song live studio session , which was published as a video series on Youtube . Originally the session was also supposed to be released as a CD-EP, but in the end the decision was made to go to the DocMaKlang recording studio again in November and record a complete album, which on March 23, 2015 under entitled Cure & Disease was published and is available as a 12 "vinyl, CD and as a download is.

In the fall of 2016, North Alone released another EP called Rare & Short . The EP was released on the Herner label Mad Drunken Monkey Records. It is available on 10 "vinyl, CD and as a download. In addition to four new original compositions, the sound carrier contains two cover songs: Violins by the American punk rock band Lagwagon and International You Day by No Use for a Name , in which the American singer Jennie Cotterill from the band Bad Cop Bad Cop as a guest singer is involved. the cover shows concert tickets from the 90s of concerts Manuel North has visited. the EP is thus a tribute to his punk rock past. Even with this release, the musicians paid tribute to the late Tony Sly Tribute, because in addition to the cover version of the No Use for a Name classic, he donates one euro for every EP sold to the Tony Sly Music Foundation for Kids . Supported by further campaigns, over $ 1,500 was donated to the foundation at the end of 2016.

The band's third studio album, entitled Next Stop CA , was released on May 4, 2018. It was recorded and produced again by Matthias Lohmöller in DocMaKlang Studio. As with Cure & Disease, So-Kumneth Sim played the violin and played the now renamed Beardless as a band . The album was released again in cooperation with the Herner label Mad Drunken Monkey Records and is distributed by Broken Silence. The cover artwork was created by the Austrian designer SBÄM , who has also designed artwork for bands such as Lagwagon , NOFX , Pennywise and other punk rock bands . For the song November 16 , Brian Wahlstrom , who already played some tours under the name Scorpios with Tony Sly and Joey Cape, played the piano as a guest musician.

On March 20, 2020, the fourth studio album "Punk Is Dad" will be released, which will contain the most popular track by the band "For Milo" on Spotify to this day.

North Alone has already been seen live in the opening act for Flogging Molly , New Model Army , Levellers , Dave HOME , Useless ID , Bad Cop / Bad Cop , The Last Gang , Old Man Markley , The Real McKenzies , Get Dead and Uke-Hunt . Manuel North was also seen as a special guest alongside Joey Cape on his Oneweek Records Tour in 2017. Since the summer of 2013, North has mostly been accompanied live by So-Kumneth Sim on violin and, after the release of the new album, increasingly by the entire band. Manuel North has played almost 800 concerts so far, more than half of which were solo concerts.

In September 2015 he played as support with So-Kumneth Sim at the German concerts of the British musician Frank Turner , the following year he did a Germany tour as support for the British band Skinny Lister .
