The Nussbach , also known as Hahnenbach during the Franconian era , is a seven and a half kilometer long stream and a right tributary of the Odenbach in Rhineland-Palatinate . It flows along its entire length through the North Palatinate Uplands and there from the Donnersbergkreis into the Kusel district .

Atzenbach

The left source branch Atzenbach of the Nussbach rises in the natural area Lichtenberg-Höhenrück of the North Palatinate highlands at an altitude of 355  m above sea level. NHN in a wood at the northern foot of the Hesselberg ( 416.5  m ) southwest of the local community of Reichsthal, which is part of the Rockenhausen community . It is sometimes seen as the upper reaches of the Nussbach.

The Atzenbach initially flows, accompanied by thick wood, almost 200 m in an east-northeast direction through the southern village area. West of the street Am Hesselberg it disappears piped into the underground, then reappears on the surface after about 150 m north of Brunnenstraße on the eastern edge of the village and joins there after a run of just 0.4 kilometers at a height of 339  m with the right source branch called Dietenbach .

The 0.6 kilometer long Dietenbach is the right source brook of the Nussbach. It is often seen as its tributary.

The combined stream now flows, accompanied by thick vegetation of bushes and trees, through a narrow valley towards the north. His run takes him past Götzenberg ( 366.8  m ) on his left and then Steinkauterberg , the western mountain spur of Felsberg ( 442.3  m ), on the right . He then moves through the Hesselwiese , accompanied by a tree gallery . District road  85 runs parallel to him on his left .

The Nussbach then crosses the border from Reichsthal to the Rathskirchen municipality, which belongs to the same association, and crosses the K 85 a little later . He now moves along the western edge of the forest and changes south of the Bösodenbacherhof residential area to the northwest. It then flows southwest of the living space first through the Hofwiese corridor and then through the An der Spezwiese corridor . He turns north again at Flur Au and then reaches the southern edge of Rathskirchen at Flur Frühwiese .

It now runs north-north-west along the western edge of the village and is fed on its right by a nameless forest stream. The Nussbach is now accompanied by the L 386 . Good half a kilometer down stream it flows south of the Rath Kirchener local part Rudolph churches in Farrenwiese on his left side of Authenbach to. The Nussbach then gently meanders past the village at the foot of the Eltersstein ( 414.3  m ). It then moves along the western edge of the large forest and crosses the border from the Donnersbergkreis to the Kusel district. and enters the district of the local community of Nussbach , which belongs to the Lauterecken-Wolfstein community , and whose coat of arms shows it in stylized form.

Shortly after crossing the border, the Bittenbacher Graben, coming from the northeast, flows towards him on his right . The Nußbach now runs northwestward, achieved in the hallway March garden the outskirts named after him and lauterecken-wolfstein local church belonging Nußbach , he is depicted stylized their arms, and then flows on the southern edge of the village along. There it is also reinforced on the right-hand side by the Dorfbach coming from the north-northeast . The Nussbach then moves, accompanied by wood, at the northern foot of the Galgenkopf ( 304.6  m ) westward through fields and meadows and at times marks the border to the local community Reipoltskirchen, which is part of the same association .

It now flows along the northern edge of the Löschwald forest , then crosses the L 382 and finally flows southeast of Reipoltskirchen at an altitude of 199  m on the right into the Odenbach coming from the south .

After its 7.4 kilometers long run from the source of the Atzenbach, the Nussbach flows about 156 m below its origin, which corresponds to an average bed gradient of 21.1 ‰. The stream, which is part of the Rhine river system, drains its 18.5 km² catchment area via Odenbach, Glan , Nahe and finally the Rhine to the North Sea .

environment

The Nussbach is a carbonate low mountain range rich in fine material. The water structure quality is mainly significantly to strongly changed. In the localities there are also very strongly to completely changed sections. There are individual sections throughout the course that have only been changed moderately. The water quality is indicated as moderately polluted from Reichsthal and critically polluted from Nussbach (quality class II – III) (as of 2005).

From the source to the township of Rathskirchen, the Nussbach is accompanied by Kreisstraße 85 ( Kreuzhof –Rathskirchen), and on its further course to the confluence with Landesstraße 386 ( Rockenhausen –Reipoltskirchen).
