Nynäshamn is a municipality ( Swedish kommun ) in the Swedish province of Stockholm County and the historic province of Södermanland . The main town of the municipality is Nynäshamn .
geography
The area in which the municipality is located is also known as southern Södertörn , as it is located at the southern end of the Södertörn peninsula. The southern part of the Stockholm metropolitan area is located in the north of the peninsula . Off the coast there are thousands of small islands that make up the Nynäshamn archipelago .
history
The present community was formed in 1974 by merging the former communities of Nynäshamn, Sorunda and Ösmo.
economy
From Nynäshamn, the ferries to Visby on Gotland operate , which are primarily important for tourism, but also the ferries to Poland , which mainly transport freight and trucks.
