The Upper Molsberger Tal is a nature reserve near Molsberg , a district of Happurg in the Middle Franconian district of Nürnberger Land .

The nature reserve Upper Molsberger Tal lies in the upper part of the Molsberger Tal, a deeply cut valley between Förrenbach and Molsbach.
description
The area is the oldest designated nature reserve in the Nürnberger Land. The extension is 17.38 hectares and it bears the cadastral number NSG500.003. The nature reserve is part of the Natura 2000 network and designated as part of the protected area DE6534371, brook valleys of the Hersbrucker Alb .
The area takes its name from the Molsbach, which is fed by 28 springs. Over the centuries, the brook has dug its way deep into the slopes of the Middle Franconian Alb and created the geological layered landscape . The valley slopes are criss-crossed by a network of small streams that are fed by tufa springs. These unite in the Molsbach, which flows down into the valley over limestone tufa terraces and flows into the Happurger Bach near Förrenbach . The limestone tufa terraces are the reason for reporting the Molsberger Valley as an FFH area (Fauna-Flora-Habitat). The protected area provides interesting insights into the characteristic habitats of the Albtrauf .
Flora and fauna
Small-scale natural change here ravine forests grazed with swelling slopes, poor grasslands , juniper bushes , meadows, Hochstaudenfluren and Kalkschuttfluren from. The high diversity of biotopes creates a species-rich flora and fauna. Valuable old trees are a refuge for rare insect and bird species as well as for reptiles. The spring slopes are also the habitat of the fire salamander . The Molsberger Tal was used as a hutanger until the 1960s . As part of the Hutanger project, the Wengleinpark Nature Conservation Center has been attempting to graze again since 2011 .
Access
The protected area is freely accessible all year round. A regional hiking trail (marked Blauer Punkt) runs through the area parallel to the Molsbach and is also connected to the local network of Happurg trails. (Marking white 8 on green). A visit is particularly worthwhile in early summer. An information board is located in the protected area. Parking is available above the protected area on the road from Schupf to Molsberg, as well as in the village of Förrenbach. With the public transport ( VGN ) the arrival is possible daily. First with the regional train from Nuremberg to Hersbruck and then on with the 321 bus from Hersbruck to the Molsberg stop. From there it is a 5-minute walk. The site is also easy to reach by bike.
Surroundings
The surrounding area offers leisure activities such as cycling and hiking. Lake Happurger See is about 3 kilometers to the northwest . There is a concentration camp memorial on the road from Happurg to Schupf . There are restaurants in Förrenbach, Kainsbach and See.
