chapel
Oberlauken's landmark is the (Protestant) chapel . It dates from the 17th century and is visible from afar on a hill above the village. The town's coat of arms also refers to this chapel. The chapel and churchyard wall have been under monument protection since 1931 . Next to the chapel is a linden tree that has broken into three trunk parts, all of which have continued to grow as individual trees. There are a total of six linden trees around the chapel and together with it form an ensemble. The linden trees are protected as a natural monument.
The chapel has an organ from 1833. The organ was completely renovated in 2011 at a cost of € 40,000. Gas heating was installed in 2010 for € 60,000.
legend
According to a local legend, the people of Oberlauken initially wanted to build the church themselves. However, the timber disappeared from the construction site at night and reappeared on the Lindenberg. After the villagers brought the wood back down, the spell was repeated the following night. On the third night a mysterious figure appeared, pointing to the mountain with a linden branch. The place then decided to build the chapel on the mountain (see literature).
Town center
The village center, which was renovated as part of the village renewal program, has a number of beautiful half-timbered houses. The village center is the village fountain Weed in the center (redesigned in 2003).
